SOUND BYTES

We’re back, baby.

Welcome to Sound Bytes, where podcast sound design takes center stage.

Pinch me, I’m dreaming. Seriously, how did I end up here? A format without a rule book. A space where you can spread your creative wings every day and not have to run it through twenty layers of approval. You think it. You make it. It goes out to an audience. That freedom still blows my mind. And even after years of doing this, I feel like I’m only scratching the surface of what’s possible.

My name is Nicholas Torres, former gatekeeper of audio knowledge, but working on myself. I started my career in TV, earning credits across more than 60 networks before moving full-time into podcasting in 2021. With thousands of podcast episodes under my belt, I’ve had the chance to explore creativity in sound and how to turn good tape into unforgettable listening.

Sound Bytes is here to help creators do the same. To make every sound, every sound effect, and every musical moment work harder. To know when to drop the beat, when to push it loud, when to pull back, when to let silence hang. When to layer in sound effects for impact. And when (and how) to dial in plugins to help shape the moment.

Beyond that, I’ll also show how to craft playful, unexpected moments that give episodes a spark and carry it somewhere unexpected.

My mission is simple: make every sound, every effect, and every musical choice feel intentional, so the final production feels bigger than the team behind it. That’s one of the reasons I fell in love with this medium in the first place.

Have a singing piece of audio and want to be a contributor? I’d love to showcase your work as well. Are you new to this? Great! This is a space to explore, experiment, and grow. Seasoned? Great! Lets show fellow audiophiles how to raise the bar! Somewhere in the middle? Get out of here! OK fine, stay and show us how you approach the craft and what works for you.
